VILLA ROSA (MARIA ISA & MUJA MESSIAH) + PROPER-T + DJ ESPADA
** Villa Rosa's Maria Isa and Muja Messiah presents their latest work with the album LeMuria which is Twin Cities hip-hop duo's third project as Villa Rosa following their 2012 EP Exotic Paraphernalia and the 2011 full-length album Blue Diamond Island. Muja Messiah and Maria Isa collaborate with Minneapolis-based producers EQ the Sound and BLXCK ON BLXCK on what seems to be a sanctified and astrological adventure taking you on an underwater and galactic voyage. **
MUJA MESSIAH has been on a roll of releases this year with his weekly podcast The Godcast and his latest albums Angel Blood Soup and "9th House" One of the best hip-hop albums of the year with Minneapolis rapper I Self Divine. Stay tuned for his weekly releases of "Messiah Mondays."
MARIA ISA has been focusing on her latest project the Latina Theory podcast covering politics, national news and entertainment from a Latina woman's perspective. Maria is a playwright for the Mixed Blood Theatre's Dj Latinidad opening in March. Most recently Isa has been working between Minneapolis and Los Angeles along with participating in National screenings for the Latino Film Strike One where she stars as Angie Garcia alongside Danny Trejo and Johnny Ortiz. Maria also stars in the Dr. Justin Schell documentary We Rock Long Distance and is finishing up The Dragon Lady to be out this Spring.
PROPER T:
My name is Taylor Johnson, and I am a freelance performer, artist, songwriter and producer in the Minneapolis area. My current work is based out of and inspired by South Minneapolis, but my career has taken me from Atlanta to Nashville to North Carolina to Philly to DC to NY, and finally back home again. While I attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I miraculously found the time and means to travel to different labels and writing groups up and down the east coast. During my travels, I wrote and produced with Dirty Harry, Don Cheegro, and The Clutch (Fantasia, Ludacris, Ciara). I also crossed paths with Haystak and Sonny Paradise at Street Flavor Records where I learned the art of audio engineering, including recording, mixing, and mastering. Right before I settled back in Minneapolis, I traveled between DC and Atlanta producing and writing with Kandi Burruss and Shamora Crawford. My first major placement was on Kandis latest project Kandi Koated entitled Superwoman. Check it out here!
Ive arrived in a place where I can start to make my dreams reality. As a creative, I thoroughly enjoy making things from nothing. Is that not the thrill of this life? As a matter of fact, our lives are creative processes unfolding right before our eyes. We add each day and learn more and more until we just cant take it anymore. We eventually have a product overflowing with a brilliant aesthetic, message, and appeal. The Sol Flower Collective gives me a platform to demonstrate that beauty.
