This is a rare and delicious treat: three of Lena's all-time greatest heritage blues guitarists on stage together. We guarantee they'll be at the top of their fretboard game tonight! Andy Cohen is a "walking, talking folk-blues-roots music encyclopedia." With smoky fireside vocals and fiery guitar picking and strumming, Andy plays the classics. Expect to hear blues rooted in Mississippi, the Piedmont, Memphis, and Chicago, as well as some ragtime, gospel, and original tunes. Among his many awards are the 2011 Eisteddfod Award from the Eisteddfod Traditional Music Festival, and the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award from the California Autoharp Gathering.
Classic songs played by a classy man in a classy suit. That's what you get when you see classic American guitar legend Dakota Dave Hull. Deemed by Dave Van Ronk as "one of the best guitarists in the world," Dakota Dave presents a passion and dexterity on the guitar that is captivating whether it's the hot upbeat ragtime tunes or the mellow lonesome ballads of the blues traditions. An expert player of jazz, ragtime, folk, blues, Western swing, and vintage pop, his hearty guitar playing calls on the language of the masters, but in a vocabulary that is Dave's alone: alternately mirthful and moving.
Paul Asbell's professional career originates in the clubs of his native Chicago. He "tackles bouncy ragtime fingerpicking, crisp flat-picking, and lush, jazzy chording with equal aplomb." (Guitar Player Magazine) In addition to his captivating solo performances, he has performed with John Lee Hooker, Eric Clapton, and Steve Winwood. Paul has also composed, performed, and recorded more than 60 film and video soundtracks and teaches guitar at many universities, including Dartmouth, Skidmore, and Middlebury.
