Fresh voices in folk music fill the stage at Caffe Lena tonight! Montreal chamber folk duo The Bombadils features maritimer Luke Fraser on guitar, mandolin and home-grown east coast vocals in harmony with prairie-girl Sarah Frank's singing, lyrical fiddle playing and claw-hammer banjo. Drawing from the Canadian, American, and Celtic traditions, as well as a childhood spent listening to the Beatles and Beethoven, their musical skill is rooted in years of classical and jazz training at McGill University.
Two five-string fiddles (or fiddle and banjo) combined with two powerful voices equals the epic duo 10 String Symphony. Featuring former Illinois state fiddle champion Rachel Baiman, and current member of the Jerry Douglas Band Christian Sedelmyer, this twosome delivers "a dynamic musical stew . . . of acoustic-based roots music, hitting on old-time, folk and bluegrass, all delivered with a dash of rock and roll spunk" (American Songwriter Magazine). Creating rhythm sections, droning bass lines, and lilting harmonic melodies all in one stroke of the bow & pluck of the string, their music is nuanced, raw and intimate. Their recent album hit #3 on the Billboard Americana charts.
