Egmont
"Egmont," by the great German poet and scientist Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, is a historical tragedy about love and revolution in the 16th century. Completed in 1788, Goethe's Egmont dramatizes events surrounding the revolts over religious persecution which led to civil war in the Netherlands.
For this performance, artistic director Timothy Nutter and translator Adam Siegel have written a fast-paced, modernized adaptation of the original German script. Expect a broad historical panorama with riots, political protests, soldiers, kings, queens, crossbows, swords, romance, deception, wine, period costumes, generals, singing, love, happiness, betrayal, despair and the kitchen sink.
Beethoven's incidental music to this play will be performed by the Davis Sinfonietta under the baton of Jonathan Spatola-Knoll. Prince Egmont will be played by Justin Mason, with Jenna Templeton, Lisa Halko, Matt Urban, Adam Siegel, Kevin Toole, Sarah Cohen, Scarlet O'Connor, Kane Chai, Shiloh Germano, Mikaila Henning, Justin Mancini and Corey Shake completing the cast.
