Low Down: A LEVYdance / Foundry World Premiere
LEVYdance and The Foundry, two renowned San Francisco dance companies, announce the world premiere of Low Down: a creative collaboration exploring the body's ability to communicate. LEVYdance Artistic Director, Benjamin Levy, and The Foundry Artistic Director, Alex Ketley, have engaged both companies together to mutually explore the body's ability to tell a story. Can a language of movement be developed that communicates specific meaning, while maintaining the profound expression inherent in dance? The artists are using both found and invented texts as inspiration for choreographic exploration, looking at context, rhythm and meaning to inspire movement generation. The creative process integrates the aesthetics of both choreographers and infuses the work with the performance sensibilities of both companies, producing a unified performance that is entirely new. Following the successful fall premiere of ROMP, named one of the "Top Ten Dance Moments of 2011" by The San Francisco Chronicle, and Ketley's Isadora Duncan Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Choreography, both artists are equally poised to engage in such an ambitious collaboration.
The Thursday evening performance includes a post-performance Q&A with the Artists.
Saturday evening VIP tickets include a post-performance reception and a $25 tax-deductible donation to LEVYdance.
