Song Books
<fidget>, an arts organization dedicated to cross-disciplinary experimentation, delves into the spaces for thought and creation opened by John Cage's legacy. In March the focus turns to John Cage's Song Books. This two volume collection of scores provides improvisational instructions for: the solo voice, performative happenings, and electronics. The interpretation of these scores by <fidget> current and past Artists in Residence at thefidget space will unfold before your eyes. Songbooks is laced with texts by Marcel Duchamp, Buckminster Fuller, Henry David Thoreau, and can be seen as a compendium of Cage's compositional techniques throughout the 1960s. Don't miss the last chance this season to dive into the experimentation, manifestation, and conversation at thefidget space on Friday, March 16th at 8PM and Saturday, March 17th at 2PM.
Several Song Books scores will be interpreted by <fidget>'s co-directors Megan Bridge (dancer/choreographer) and Peter Price (electronic musician), who will be joined by Artists in Residence at thefidget space Mauri Walton (performance art, 2011) and Joo Won Park (electronic music, 2012). On Friday night <fidget> also welcomes vocalist Bonnie Lander. A classically trained coloratura soprano with a focus in experimental music, Lander was one of the founding artists of the Residency program at thefidget space (2010). Currently based in San Diego, CA, Lander is flying in for the event. Saturday's performance will culminate in an open discussion with Laura Kuhn (executive director of the John Cage Trust), Arthur Sabatini (performance studies scholar, Arizona State University), and Peter Price.
