The Road to Moneygall
With Director Ed Godsell and Henry Healy in person!
The Road to Moneygall is a heart-warming, fascinating, disarming chronicle of three years in the life of the inhabitants of Moneygall village, county Offaly - which come to wholly unexpected fame in 2008 as the birthplace of Fulmouth Kearney - five-times great grandfather of the leader of the free world: US President, Barack Obama.
Starting in mid 2008 as Obama beat Hilary Clinton to the Democratic nomination, through the entire presidential campaign, win and inauguration right up to the impending visit to the birthplace of his ancestor in 2011 - the whole story is told from the unassuming and utterly charming perspectives of Henry Healy, - 8th cousin of the President and chosen representative of Obama's Irish lineage; local Church Of Ireland Vicar Rev. Stephen Neill, and The Corrigan Brothers - the wily balladeers responsible for the inimitable tune: There's No-one As Irish As Barack Obama.
We follow Henry, Rev. Stephen and The Corrigans as they follow Obama's journey to the White House with their fellow villagers at Ollie Hayes Bar in Moneygall. We travel with them to Washington in February 2009 as they're invited to attend Obama's inauguration (where, despite his fervent hope, Henry never gets to meet his famous cousin), and we join in with the festivities, minor panics and hectic preparations in the lead-up to Obama's visit, culminating in the pageantry of the Big Day itself.
