Wax Idols/ Them are us Too/ Blood Stone 10/28 at Marble Bar
"The third album by Wax Idols is equal parts declaration of independence and meditation on togetherness, and this is, perhaps, where it strays from the band's previous work: American Tragic stands out for its profound empathy elegiac in its approach, but connective by nature. To say that it's simply a break-up album is to sell short an idea that Hether Fortune has been playing with over the entire arc of her discography, and that is the notion that personhood is neither fixed nor consistent: We can be independent and attached, in need of discipline and desire, or even fully autonomous with a little bit of help. As Fortune points out here, even America, for all its symbolism and mythic value, also rests in tragedy." - Collect Records
Them are us Too
We are fragile, life is futile. We make densely textural music, immersing ourselves in the creation of a visceral, resonant, physical/psychic/emotional phenomenon. We revel in futility; we become euphoric body/sound. In this pursuit we find that we can subvert, to some degree, confines of time and structured narrative, embodiment and physical space. As queer femmes, we emphasize engaging with other women/queer/trans artists, spaces and communities in our work. We do not tolerate oppressive ideologies and behaviors (including but not limited to misogyny, racism, homophobia, transphobia and ableism) at our shows or in our collaborators. Kennedy uses she/her/hers pronouns, Cash uses they/them/theirs and she/her/hers. Them Are Us Too come from the SF Bay Area in California.
