Mardi Gras San Francisco Style and 6th Annual Masquerade Ball Kicks Off at Fillmore Plaza Feb 18
The Village Project and the Fillmore Center are proud to present the 6th Annual Mardi Gras San Francisco Style Fat Tuesday in the Fillmore from February 18 to February 21, 2012. The four-day celebration will commence with a free kick-off concert in the Fillmore Plaza on Saturday February 18th from 2 to 5 pm.
This year's 6th Annual Mardi Gras San Francisco Style Fat Tuesday in the Fillmore fundraiser will once again bring the San Francisco Fillmore Music District to life with colorful events that include a masquerade ball, free concerts, street artists, performers, and New Orleans-style processionals.
Guests will also enjoy food, drink and other specials at numerous Fillmore restaurants, clubs and businesses.
A plethora of eclectic delectable eats will be available to satisfy every palate, whether it's homemade cookies and ice cream at Bumzy's Cookies, chicken and waffles at Gussie's, Yoshi's Japanese, or Ethiopian cuisine from Rasselas and Sheba Lounge.
The four-day celebration, produced by The Village Project and The Fillmore Center begins Saturday, February 18th, with a free kick-off concert in the Fillmore Plaza, featuring reggae jams from The Jah Summit Band and funk sounds from The Uninvisible Band. .
The Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball at the West Bay Conference Center is the crown jewel of San Francisco's Fat Tuesday celebration on February 21, featuring Black Nature of the Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars, with a guest performance by Ziek Carter.
There will be a free pre-ball concert at the Fillmore plaza from 5 pm to 7 pm, with street artists and performers and a final festive processional led by MJ's Brass Boppers to the ball, where guests will enjoy an evening of New Orleans style food, dancing to a DJ, a costume contest, raffles, and plenty of partying.
Advance purchase tickets are $25 per person or $40 for couples. At the door, tickets are $35 per individual and $60 for couples. Ticket price also allows guests to enjoy specials offered by numerous Fillmore restaurants and businesses, including admission to both Saturday night's after-party at Rasselas ($15 without ticket). About the Village Project Adrian Williams is the founder of The Village Project, a youth service organization focusing on education and cultural enrichment for youth and their families in the Western Addition. The Village Project also produces Grilling in the 'MO, A Senior Moment and Seven Days of Kwanzaa Celebration, which last year was held in more than a dozen different venues.
This year's Mardi Gras San Francisco Style is co-sponsored by the Fillmore Center and co-produced by Omar Khalif.
