An Acoustic Evening with Jacob Augustine
Jacob Augustine is a singer, songwriter and musician from the Northern woods of Maine. He has lived all over the country, crisscrossing the United States performing for over a decade in various projects. While living in California in 2008, he recorded his first record under Jacob Augustine, entitled Harmonia, which was released in early 2009 to critical acclaim. This album was named a Top Ten Album of the Year by The Portland Phoenix and the song "High Water" received airplay on radio stations across the country. After that release, Jacob decided to move back to where it all began, Maine.
In the years following Harmonia's release, Jacob would gather musicians from across Portland's vast music community, assembling one of the most ferocious and emotionally intense acts to come out of Maine in quite some time. That band, called Jacob and the House Of Fire, toured all over the Northeast including performances at The State Theater, Port City Music Hall (multiple times), 2010 KahBang Music, Art and Film Festival, 2010 Old Port Festival, 2010 Common Ground Fair, and in front of tens of thousands of people at Oktoberfest in Harvard Square (Cambridge, MA) in the Fall of 2010.
During the Winter of 2011, the band chose to move forward with their own individual careers and that allowed Jacob who at the time already had nearly finished one full length record Frontier, to work on recording two other albums. The Original Love was another full length record, that like Frontier, he recorded himself in various hallways, bedrooms, and living rooms around Portland and in a cabin in Northern Maine. Then, with the help of Frank Hopkins and Mayo Street Arts Center (in Portland), he was also able to record a six song EP entitled Goldyhymns, live at Mayo Street Arts.
In wanting to let people here all the music he had recorded over the past few years since Harmonia, Jacob thought it best to release all three albums at once and did so on October 25, 2011. The albums were placed on Jacob's bandcamp site, jacobaugustine.bandcamp.com, for digital download only and that is still the only place to listen and download the new records. Downloading the albums from the bandcamp site for the "name-your-price" option, builds upon Jacob's thoughts on music and that it should be for the masses and available for anyone, no matter their financial situation.
The releases were followed by a show at Port City Music Hall in early November, where he was accompanied by members of Dominic and the Lucid, The Milkman's Union and The Fog Cutters. The releases have since yielded critical acclaim from across Maine, the Northeast, the U.S. and even as far away as The Philippines.
