What: SAN FRANCISCO -- The Village Project and the Bayview Y present San Francisco's 6th Annual Kwanzaa CelebrationUniting to Strengthen Our Families and Communities. The celebration honors the seven principles of Kwanzaa with 13 free events taking place over seven days throughout San Francisco. Each celebration begins with a spiritual ceremony, followed by a feast, live entertainment and a lighting of one of the seven candles of the Kinara. Among the many performers will be local blues and jazz vocalist Lady Mem'fis.
The seven-day celebration begins with a keynote address by Dr. Anita Grier (City College of San Francisco Trustee) on December 26th at the West Bay Center. Other highlights of this year's Kwanzaa celebration include a performance of the one-woman play, "Harriet Tubman, The Underground Railroad," at the Bayview YMCA on Dec. 28th; a keynote address by Dr. Brenda Wade, author and host of the TV show, Black Renaissance on Dec. 27th at City Hall, and a book signing and talk by Tuskegee Airman Les Williams, author of "Victory: Tales of a Tuskegee Airman," about serving as an African-American pilot during World War II, who will appear at Marcus Book Store on Jan.1, 2012.

About Kwanzaa
Created by Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1966, Kwanzaa is celebrated annually by more than 30 million people worldwide, over seven days from December 26 to January 1.The values of Kwanzaa, Nguzo Saba (The Seven Principles), are critical tools for addressing the issues facing the African-American community.
Ceremonies will be led by Brotha' Clint and Malik Seneferu. Candle lighting, live entertainment & feast at each event.

About the Village Project
Adrian Williams is the founder of The Village Project, a youth service organization focusing on education and cultural enrichment for youth and their families in the Western Addition. She has revived the celebration of Kwanzaa throughout San Francisco, by connecting traditionally African American communities for this celebration.
