September Sustainability Series: 100%:A Clean Energy Vision for Colorado
What do San Diego, Vancouver, Aspen, and San Jose have in common? Every one of these cities has adopted the goal of relying exclusively on renewable or clean energy. And the adoption of extremely aggressive renewable energy goals isn't limited to cities. Hawaii's legislature just last month adopted a goal of achieving 100% sustainable energy by 2045. California, on the way to achieving its goal of a 40% greenhouse gas emission reduction within 15 years, last year increased the amount of power generated by utility-scale solar from 1.9% to 5% in just twelve months.
We are seeing an impressive increase in the number of entire countries, as well, adopting ambitious energy goals. Germany has grown renewable energy output eightfold since 1990, hitting 26% of the country's power supply last year. Denmark plans to achieve this goal by 2050, and already generates nearly 40% of its electricity from wind and is on track to hit 50% renewable by 2020. Scotland is likely to hit 100% by 2030.
What would it be like to live in a city or country that gets all of its energy from renewable sources? How different would your daily life be? Would it be more Middle Ages or more Jetsons? How would you travel to work and heat your home? Would cities and neighborhoods look different?
Please join us on September 1st from 6-8pm at The Alliance Center for a panel discussion moderated by Jacob Smith, the Programs Director of the Alliance for Sustainable Colorado, exploring what the 100% renewable energy of the city will look like and what it will be like to live there. Panelists include: -Sonrisa, Lucero-Sustainability Strategist for the City of Denver -Jonathan Koehn, Regional Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Boulder -Bob Lachenmayer, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Liason to Schneider Electric for Positive Energies, LLC -Jocelyn Hittle, Director of Denver Operational Initiatives for Colorado State University
Networking starts at 6pm, and the program will begin at 6:30pm. The moderated panel will be followed by audience Q&A and closing remarks. The event concludes at 8pm, but we invite you to remain afterward for additional networking and refreshments.
Food and cash bar will be available.
