Leschi Elementary & Madrona PK-8 Smart Snacks Happy Hour
Childhood obesity is a national epidemic. Nearly 1 in 3 children (ages 2-19) in the United States is overweight or obese, putting them at risk for serious health problems. In an effort to develop smart snacking habits for our students, the Leschi Elementary & Madrona PK-8 are teaming together to host a Smart Snacks Happy Hour to raise money to fund a daily Fresh Fruit & Vegetable snack program. The event will be held on Thursday, August 27th from 6:30-8:00 at Green Plate Special.
Instead of low nutritive snacks, our students will be given fresh produce during school each day. This snack has been proven to help with increased concentration and better learning in the classroom. Our goal is to raise $35,000 to fund nearly 126,000 servings of fresh produce during the 2015/16 school year for all 700 Leschi Elementary & Madrona PK-8 students.
We are proud to partner with Green Plate Special for this important initiative. Green Plate Special's mission is to inspire and empower youth to experience food in new ways through gardening, cooking and eating together.
