Casablanca (35mm)
In the Cinematheque's recent audience poll, this beloved 1942 movie was the overwhelming choice for "first [;;regular];; film that the Cinematheque should show in its new auditorium." So on Friday, August 7, we'll present it in our new Peter B. Lewis Theater at 11610 Euclid Avenue. But we're not going to show CASABLANCA just one time to fulfill our obligation; we're going to show it twice: once at 7 pm from 35mm film, and once at 9:15 pm from DCP (digital cinema package). So you can choose the format you prefer. Or you can catch both screenings and compare formats! (A separate admission is required; see different BPT page for the digital CASABLANCA.) In either version you'll enjoy Humphrey Bogart as cynical American Rick, who owns a nightclub in polyglot Morocco during WWII; Ingrid Bergman as his old flame, who turns up one day with her Resistance fighter husband wanted by the Nazis; Dooley Wilson as Sam, the singer and pianist who plays "As Time Goes By" again; and Peter Lorre and a host of great character actors in indelible supporting roles. We hope these screenings really do mark "the beginning of a beautiful friendship" between you and our new theater! 102 min.
