Fambul Tok
After the failure of the international community's post-conflict efforts to address peace at the grass-roots level, Sierra Leoneans are reviving their ancient practice of fambul tok (family talk). Rejecting Western notions of prosecution and punishment, they are gathering in conversation around the village bonfire, bringing victims and offenders together in traditional ceremonies of truth-telling and forgiveness.
