David Gatzke, VP of Acquisitions at Community Housing Works
David Gatzke joined Community Housing Works in 2007, and is responsible for identifying and securing acquisition of multi-family development sites and acquisition/rehabilitation properties. He is also responsible for managing feasibility review process as well as leading entitlement efforts for acquisition/rehab and new construction developments. Mr. Gatzke has 18 years of land development and project management experience. Prior to joining CHW, he was responsible for the planning and land development activities of multiple master-planned communities in San Diego and Riverside Counties. In addition, he has led the acquisitions and entitlement efforts of an infill homebuilder, and provided multi-disciplinary land analysis as a consultant to major institutional and private landowners. Mr. Gatzke has extensive experience in obtaining challenging entitlements, including securing permits under California and Federal Clean Water Acts and Endangered Species Acts. David Gatzke received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles and his Masters of Urban Planning from the University of Washington's College of Urban Design and Planning.
Laura Shinn, AIA, Director of Facilities Planning at San Diego State University Laura V. Shinn, AIA, AICP, is the Director of Planning at San Diego State University. Ms. Shinn is responsible for campus strategic and master plan management, capital program development, facilities planning and design, and facilities data and records oversight, as well as the Facilities Graphics studio and sign shop.
Prior to joining SDSU in December of 2013, Ms. Shinn was a director in the Office of planning at The Ohio State University. Prior to joining Ohio State, Ms. Shinn was the Associate Director of Design at the Columbus Neighborhood Design Assistance Center. She began her career as an architect in private practice specializing in historic preservation and accessible design.
John Ziebarth, AIA, President of Ziebarth Associates, Inc. Architecture/Planning
Mr. Ziebarth's experience has ranged from a Peace Corps architect, full service private architectural practice including planning entitlements, architectural programming and CEQA coordination, as well as increasing public architectural awareness, education, and regulatory reforms.
An AIASD 2006 Distinguished Service Award summarized his contribution: . . . He has been instrumental in crafting new development guidelines in order to simplify the regulatory processes, has been effective in fighting for the rights and interests of our profession and our clients, and through these efforts has gained the respect of governmental agencies and personnel with whom he's worked . . . not only being a watchdog for our industry, but a valued resource for regulators themselves. . .
