Pearl Django CD Release Concert
Celebrating their sixteenth year of performing, Pearl Django continues to be one of America's most respected and busiest Hot Club style bands. They return to Vashon, Saturday, June 4, for a CD release concert. The group recently played a Montana tour, did a gig with Bellingham Symphony, held a spot in the Sacramento Jazz Festival and with two new CD's under their belt, Pearl Django's hot club music is hotter than ever.
Their newest CD Systeme D, is their tenth release and introduces new guitarist, Troy Chapman. This CD is dedicated to Neil Andersson, who retired from Pearl Django after 16 years. The CD will be available at the performance. They have released 9 CDs to date.
Though still strongly influenced by Django Reinhardt's iconic gypsy, hot club musical style, Pearl Django's repertoire also includes many original compositions. Their music reaches out across the divides of taste to a wide variety of fervent followers including Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli fans, guitarists and guitar enthusiasts, string music aficionados, bluegrass devotees, world music fans and jazz buffs. Transcending simple categorization, Pearl Django packs in enthusiastic audiences at dancehalls and nightclubs, at folk music festivals and jazz festivals alike.
"Pearl Django play(s) gypsy jazzand they do it with such verve, skill and pleasure that they're pretty much irresistible to jazz and non-jazz listeners alike," affirms a Seattle Weekly music critic.
