Dis-Illusions II
DIS-ILLUSIONS II is the second in a series of performances exploring the concept of perception and memory that is based on scientific evidence that what and how we construct our sense of reality may differ radically from one another. Our expectations, beliefs and memories all affect our perception. Interspersing stories from the dancer's pasts with shifting movement patterns and dynamics, the dance flows with its own stream of consciousness logic where the sands of reality are constantly changing. Musician Ken Christianson creates a live aural landscape that riffs off of the emotional and kinetic tones in the dance. Working within adjustable space of the fabulous new venue LA Live Arts, stairs, balconies, internal windows and doors offer multiple opportunities to alter the performing and audience space. The room itself becomes an element in the examination of perception and how we view and interpret external information. Dis-Illusions is a continuation of Donna Sternberg & Dancers science series, which seeks to build a bridge between dance and science through the artistic interpretation of scientific principles.
