Sustainability Wins Lunch and Learn: Cultivating Community through Sustainability
Sustainable Neighborhoods are popping up all over Colorado. So what is a Sustainable Neighborhood and how can your neighborhood become one? At the October Lunch and Learn, Taylor Moellers, Sustainable Neighborhoods Program Coordinator for the City and County of Denver, will talk about the new program, the communities involved, and the lessons learned from its launch. Cassie Wright, Project Manager for Urban Ventures LLC, will discuss how the Sustainable Neighborhoods program has provided a platform for community engagement by empowering residents of the Chaffee Park-Regis neighborhood, newly-developing Aria Denver, Regis University and several nonprofits to work together on other initiatives, including the Cultivate Health project.
The Sustainable Neighborhoods Program encourages and supports residents in designing and leading community projects that enhance the environmental and social strength of their neighborhoods. Participating communities earn credits towards a City Sustainable Neighborhood designation by completing projects such as offering xeriscaping workshops, holding work days at a local community garden, installing artwork in neighborhood alleys, or getting neighbors to commit to making their homes more energy efficient. These neighborhoods receive in-kind support from the City in the form of outreach materials, printing, venue fees, food, and staff time to assist with outreach and project development. So come learn how we can make every neighborhood a sustainable one!
