Champagne Charlie
Here at the worlds last surviving complete example of an early Music Hall will be Christopher Beeching premièring a special One Act version of his entertainment about George Leybourne, Champagne Charlie.
Linked to the publication of his biography of Leybourne, the show will be staged as part of a 4 day celebration this Lion Comique of the Victorian Music Hall.
Based on the life and songs of George Leybourne, Champagne Charlie has been seen at venues throughout the UK, whilst a CD has been recorded of Leybourne's songs and excerpts from the show have been broadcast on television and radio, most recently on BBC4's Rude Britannia, as well as in the forthcoming BBC4 documentary on the history of music hall. During this new One Act version of Champagne Charlie, Leybourne's song in celebration of Moët and Chandon's champagne will be heard for the first time in 130 years.
The colourful costumes are reproductions of those worn by Leybourne in his performances.
The pianist will be Paul Knight. This show will run for approximately 1hr.
