Farm City Chautauqua: Communal Table: Covered Dish
Participants are invited to explore the history and traditions of the "covered dish". What are the different traditions around the world or is pot-luck uniquely American? Can covered dishes be tasty without canned cream soup and canned fried onions?

Ceramic artists will display and sell their wares... and more importantly, provide a "covered dish" for a renowned Chef to fill with delicious things we'll get to taste!

Make a meal with us sampling covered dishes concocted by secret guest chefs and access a private viewing of ceramic artists.  Participants who bring their own covered dish that can serve at least 8 people will receive a $10 refund on the ticket price.

Communal Table: Covered Dish is part of "Chautauqua," a series of twenty plus unique food-themed Assemblies curated by Derek Denckla of FarmCity.US and hosted by 61 Local Public House in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, a new establishment dedicated to locally crafted food.

Farm City Chautauqua aims to create community through food (and vice versa), assembling a series of innovative and diverse events and exhibitions harking back to historic cultural gatherings held in rural farming communities all over America.  Launched in 2010, FarmCity.US is an action-research project exploring social, cultural and financial ways to invest in growth of urban agriculture.

Communal Table hosts a monthly series of explorations into the ways we create community through food to foster mindfulness of the ways cooking and eating are communal acts.  Communal Table is a collaborative project of artists Deena Lebow and Ame Gilbert who have supported their artwork by cooking while slowly transforming food itself into their arts practice.
