Classical Music with The Kreutzer Quartet
" Beethoven Explored and Nicola LeFanu World Premiere"
Beethoven-Trio Op 87, Quartet Op 95, String Quintet Op 29 Nicola LeFanu-3rd Quartet
Beethoven's C Major String Quintet is one of his most radiantly beautiful and dramatic works, yet rarely programmed. The Kreutzers put it next to the almost unknown original version of his Op 87 wind trio, which was originally scored for two violins and viola. With these two works, Beethoven at his most forthright, his Op 95 Quartet, sometimes called 'Serioso'.
Nicola LeFanu is one of the UK's great composers, coming from a wonderful lineage. Her mother was the later Elizabeth Maconchy one of the most prolific composers for string quartet of the 20th Century. Nicola has been a friend of the Kreutzers for many years, and composed this quartet in response to their distinctive performing style.
