Open House: Gauthier
Gauthier Soho has been open since May 2010 and is situated in a Regency townhouse in Romilly street. The restaurant is made up of a number of small dining rooms and features a basement kitchen, very much in keeping with how a house in 19th Century Soho would have functioned. Alexis Gauthier and the team at Gauthier Soho have always wanted to give Soho a restaurant where first and foremost, the customer would be put first, where they would enter a calm and discrete world and for a few hours be treated like a king, where they could enjoy all the little luxuries of French gastronomy and want to go back to again and again. One of the great things about Soho is its diversity and sense of individuality, and Gauthier Soho is the perfect manifestation of this. Who would have thought that in the midst of a current super restaurant boom of stripped back no-reservations tapas, Korean fried chicken and U.S. comfort food dive bars, the most consistently booked-in-advance place in Soho in 2015 would be a hushed, linen-tableclothed, thick-carpeted fine-dining French restaurant where suited waiters shave truffles wearing white gloves? Gauthier Soho has never been interested in following trends, it's here for the long-term and its loyal regulars confirm its success. Alexis and the team invite you to have a look around the restaurant as they set up for an evening service, a visit to the kitchen and patisserie where the team prepare breads, amuse bouches and canapés, and into the public and private dining rooms as the staff press the linen and prepare the tables and flowers for their well-loved regular guests. This Open House visit will hopefully be a delightful insight into the inner workings of a busy independent Soho restaurant. We look forward to seeing you there.
See inside some of the most influential, ground-breaking and inspiring businesses in Soho; from tastings to talks to sound recording and architecture, the SohoCreate Open House programme invites you to discover the most creative square mile in the world, and find out what makes it tick.
