The Woman in the Window
Fritz Lang was one of the most prolific noir directors, and THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW is classic Lang. With Edward G. Robinson cast as a middle-aged professor caught in a murder web by Joan Bennett, the femme fatale, and Dan Duryea adding a diabolical edge, this murder tale takes an unusual turn. Robinson, Bennett and Duryea teamed up again the following year in Lang's SCARLET STREET.
At least one observer has remarked that the Edward G. Robinson's character was a reflection of Lang himself. THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW is also one of the first wartime films that was labeled as "film noir", a term that did not come into use until after WW II.
