Creating Ambridge
Sean O'Connor was a producer on The Archers in the 1990's. He returned as Editor in 2013 after working on classic soaps. Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti began writing for the show three years ago. Even after a successful career in television, film and theatre, she found joining the show an immense but rewarding challenge. In amongst a busy career acting for stage and television, Louiza Patikas has been Helen Archer for 14 years. Welcome to Ambridge. The Archers, 17,600 episodes and counting, is the worlds longest running radio soap. This is an incredibly rare chance to hear three creatives, who know the show intimatly, talk about the extraodinary process that goes into making every show. Some listeners have been with the show since it began back in 1951, and with such longevity it's no wonder the programme now feels so vivid and rich. The production process is so well rehearsed that contemporary events can find their way into the shows. Past episodes have included reactions to the World Trade Centre attacks and the London bombings. Here we explore the creative process behind The Archers, how stories are researched and developed, how storylines are plotted and activated and how the sounds of Ambridge are created to build this extraordinary show. This session will be chaired by journalist and broadcaster Jenni Murray 6 June 3.30pm - 4.45pm
