PLAYING WITH FIRE
The Art Theater of Davis will present its fourth production, PLAYING WITH FIRE: One-act comedies by Strindberg, Pirandello and Chekhov, May 20th and 21st, 7PM at the Veteran's Memorial Center Theatre, 203 14th Street in Davis, California.
For this production we have chosen to perform three short plays, each by a different playwright:
"Playing with fire", by August Strindberg, the Swedish dramatist, makes light of an unusual subject: playing with the "fires" of erotic desire and infidelity.
"The License" is an absurd comedy by the Italian writer, Luigi Pirandello, featuring an unusual license request by a madman...
Finally, Anton Chekhov's "Swan Song", a comic dialogue between a retired actor and his prompter, completes the program.
All three plays will be performed in original translations from the Swedish, Italian and Russian, written by Adam Siegel. Siegel is a current NEA Fellow and his translation of Ibsen's Hedda Gabler premiered last May with ATD. Our cast includes ten talented actors: Patrick Hunt, who played Chebutykin in ATD's production of Three Sisters, returns as the retired actor, Svetlovidov, a virtuoso role written by Chekhov early in his career. Nikita, the prompter, will be played by Dan Bunten. "Playing with fire" features Jena Templeton, Liz Frederick and Matt Urban as the love triangle of Knut, Kerstin and Axel, with Siegel, Chelsea Halperin and Davis-native Sarah Cohen rounding out the cast. "The License" will be lead by Cohen and Jason Votaw, with Halperin, Hunt, Bunten and Alexandria Bell in supporting roles. Lighting and sound for this production will be designed by Matthew Harral and Tim Kerbavaz.
Tickets are available in advance for $18 or at the door for $20.
