Weather Wayne
Wayne Shorter is generally thought to be the greatest jazz composer of the past fifty years and one of the world's three most important living saxophonists. In his long and unfailingly creative career, Wayne has penned some of the most memorable and lasting and innovative songs one can imagine. From Blakey to Miles to Joni Mitchell to his solo work with his current quartet, Shorter has been a crucial part of the American music soundtrack we all know and love. From 1970-1995 Wayne wrote mainly for electric instrumentation, using funk, world and Brazilian grooves as his inspiration. The group Weather Wayne, led by saxophonist/composer Michael Zilber, focusses on that era, with special attention to the joyful, challenging and infectious pieces Shorter wrote and played with Weather Report, Milton Nascimento, Herbie Hancock and on his solo records of the '80s. Michael Zilber is joined in Weather Wayne at Coda by such top Bay Area artists as Matt Clark - keys, Dan Feiszli - fretted and fretless bass, John Mader - drums and Markinho Brasil -percussion
