Découvrez sur grand écran les chefs d'œuvre de l'art lyrique et chorégraphique de l'Opéra national de Paris. Des opéras de la saison 2014-2015 de l'Opéra national de Paris seront rediffusés dans le nouveau théâtre de l'Alliance française de Toronto.

Entre ressemblances et dissonances se répondent deux grands compositeurs français et deux chorégraphes du New York City Ballet, George Balanchine, son fondateur, et Benjamin Millepied, qui y fut formé. C'est sur une œuvre de jeunesse de Bizet que George Balanchine signe, en 1947, sa première création pour le Ballet de l'Opéra,Le Palais de cristal, en hommage à la Compagnie et à la tradition française. Placé sous le signe de l'épure et du dialogue avec la musique, le ballet est un modèle de virtuosité académique auquel Christian Lacroix, en artisan de la lumière et de la couleur, donne un nouvel écrin. Benjamin Millepied signe sa troisième création pour le Ballet de l'Opéra. Avec la complicité de l'artiste plasticien Daniel Buren, il s'empare du mythe deDaphnis et Chloé. Dans la lignée balanchinienne, le chorégraphe s'inspire des rythmes et des couleurs de la symphonie chorégraphique pour orchestre et chœur de Ravel. Ces chefs-d'œuvre de la musique française sont dirigés par Philippe Jordan qui accompagne, pour la première fois, les danseurs du Ballet de l'Opéra.

Alongside Balanchine's Palais de Cristal, set to music by Bizet, Benjamin Millepied adapts Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé. Philippe Jordan will be accompanying the Paris Opera Ballet for the first time.
This encounter between two great French composers and two choreographers from the New York City Ballet, its founder George Balanchine and former student Benjamin Millepied, highlights the similarities and dissonances between them. In 1947, George Balanchine paid tribute to the company and to the French tradition with his first production for the Paris Opera Ballet, Le Palais de Cristal, in which he choreographed an early work by Georges Bizet, the Symphony in C. Characterized by its architectural design and sense of dialogue with the music, this ballet is a model of academic virtuosity, to which Christian Lacroix, an artisan of light and color, has brought new shape. Benjamin Millepied's third creation for the Paris Opera Ballet, in collaboration with the conceptual artist Daniel Buren, revisits the myth of Daphnis and Chloé. In the tradition of Balanchine, Millepied draws his inspiration from the rhythms and colors of Ravel's "choreographic symphony" for chorus and orchestra. Accompanying the dancers of the Paris Opera Ballet for the first time, Philippe Jordan conducts these masterpieces of French music.
