Accessibility: Design and Disconnects
AIA Redwood Empire will be providing continuing education necessary for re-licensing Architects. The topic covers construction-related accessibility standards and will be presented by Craig Williams, Architect, CASp. This course will include an in-depth look at the differences between the 2010 ADA and 2013 CBC.
Attendees will achieve an insight into proactive responses to address accessible design. The course also provides an updated understanding of the current standards being enforced and the ways in which the federal and state design standards regulate and facilitate 'accessibility'. We will review ways to avoid common design and construction errors. Participants will also become more familiar with the requirements for the design and renovation of accessible public accommodations and multifamily housing.
Session 1: Public Accommodations and the application of the 2013 California Building Code Chapter 11B and 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design.
Session 2: Multifamily Accessibility and the application of Fair Housing Act Design Guidelines, Section 504, ADAS, Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards (UFAS) and the 2013 CBC, Chapter 11A Standards.
