The Washington Post called the exquisite hushed vocal harmonies and chamber-pop of Winterpills "densely packed but hugely evocative, tiny bombs of feeling and meaning fiendishly melodic." Husband and wife Philip Price and Flora Reed have blossomed since they launched their band in the cold winter of 2004, releasing three full-length albums that have caught the ear of the nation's top reviewers, including making MOJO magazine's top 10 Americana list. Their 5th full-length album, Echolalia, was released this fall. This concert will feature Price and Reed playing as an acoustic duo.
The Suitcase Junket is the Vermont-born tinkerer and visionary Matt Lorenz. His one-man band was built around a resurrected dumpster guitar, an old suitcase, a hi-hat, a washboard, and a gas-can baby-shoe foot-drum. Later on a cookpot-tambourine foot-drum, a circular-saw-blade bell and a box of bones and silverware joined the outfit. On top of the rough and rootsy rhythms he pounds out with his feet and the twang-and-buzz guitar that growls through a couple of old tube amps, he adds the ethereal sounds of throat-singing to his his rock solid songs.
