This 12-hour, on-the-water course expands upon the coursework of BASIC SAILING 101 and introduces important, lifelong seamanship skills. It also serves to resolve any lingering uncertainties about your basic sailing skills. Qualified graduates are eligible to sit for the US SAILING Basic Keelboat Certification written examination immediately following the last class. Successful graduates will be awarded certification and join the ranks of US SAILING, the governing body of the sport of sailing in America.
We offer three schedule options for Advanced Sailing 161. Weekends are either morning or afternoon with sessions Saturday/Sunday/Saturday of two weekends. Weekday sessions run 5:30 - 8:30 pm, Tuesday and Thursday off two consecutive weeks.
Our instructional vessels: Unquestionably, the fastest and most effective way to learn sailing is aboard a fast, responsive and safe sailboat. Because the J/22 exceeds these criteria in every way, it is the world's most popular adult training vessel and Chicago Sailing's obvious choice. All our vessels are equipped with auxililary motors.
Our instructional course book: US SAILING's Basic Keelboat is included in your course cost. Please visit the Chicago Sailing office in Belmont Harbor to pick up this book prior to starting your sailing lessons.
