Gingerbread Boy presented by Thistle Theatre
THE GINGERBREAD BOY
Every child's dream come true a magical world of candy, cookies and ice cream. Ollie the Oven bakes cakes and cookies, Bill the Chill makes ice cream treats and Sweetie, a Copper Kettle, cooks up candy and chocolate confections. When too much spice is poured into the batter, out pops a mischievous Gingerbread Boy who stops the production of holiday goodies. Pepper Mint, a shipping clerk, runs after the Gingerbread Boy on a chase though Candyland. The chase takes them through Candy Cane Lane, past a Snow Man in the Icicle Alps and into the Soda Swamp inhabited by the Gummi Gator. The traditional story told with an original twist. Thistle Theatre is the only performing arts organization in the Pacific Northwest that specializes in Bunraku, an ancient Japanese style of puppetry. The puppeteers, dressed head-to-toe in black to suggest invisibility, operate all of the character's limbs by hand from behind. A talented ensemble of puppeteers, Ben Burris, Brian Stabile and Gina Wilhelm performs all character voices and songs live in a production directed by Jean Enticknap with music and songs by Sue Ennis. Funded in part with Funds from 4Culture/King County Lodging Tax Fund.
