The Charlottesville Jazz Society and WTJU-FM Present Jamie Baum and Short Stories

Flutist Jamie Baum is familiar to Charlottesville jazz audiences due to her numerous
appearances here with Monika Herzigs Sheroes, most recently last October at The
Front Porch. Now the Charlottesville Jazz Society and WTJU are pleased to bring Jamie
back to town for the first time with her own band, Short Stories. They will perform at
Unity of Charlottesville, 2825 Hydraulic Road, Saturday March 12 th at 8:00 PM.
New York City flutist, composer, Sunnyside Records artist, producer and
clinician, Jamie Baum, has toured the US and over 35 countries performing at major
festivals, clubs and concert halls including the Monterey and North Sea Jazz Festivals,
Dizzys Club and The Blue Note, among many others. Shes performed with artists as
renown and diverse as Randy Brecker, Roy Hargrove, and Tom Harrell,
Jamies many awards and grants for composing include: 2020 International Society of
Jazz Arrangers & Composers (ISJAC), Chamber Music America, and she was awarded
a 2014 Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship.
Ms. Baum has been on the faculty of the jazz department at The Manhattan School of
Music since 2006, teaching composition, improv, and flute technique. A clinician for
Altus Flutes/KHS America since 1993, the company have sponsored her innovative,
pioneering workshop A Fear Free Approach to Improvisation for the Classically-Trained
Musician
Just back from an intensive, well-received west coast tour, this lineup will play
compositions of Jamies as well as other band members. In addition to Jamie on flutes,
Short Stories includes some of the most in-demand jazz artists in New York: Jason
Palmer trumpet, Andy Milne piano, Joe Martin bass, and Jeff Hirshfield drums.
All are recording artists and band leaders in their own right.

Charlottesville Jazz Society pay $15. All tickets at the door will be $25. For more
