Ballroom Dancing with the Albany Jazz Big Band
The Albany Jazz Big Band has a home base in Albany,CA. It is a 26 piece big band which has been together for about 10 years. During the last two years, under the music direction of Bob Levenson and Vocal Director Richard Kalman, the band has developed a successful dance repertoire and expanded its playing range to play for dancers from Marin to Contra Costa to Alameda. The big band is collaborating with Lisa Anice, world class Ballroom Dance Instructor who offers dance lessons in Albany, SF, the peninsula and San Jose areas. The evening will commence with a 45 minute dance lesson conducted by Ms. Anice covering the basics of Swing Dancing, Fox Trot, Salsa, Rhumba, Mambo and Cha Cha Cha and is open to all guests. The Big Band will follow with two longs sets commencing at 8 oclock and the evening's dancing will conclude at 10 pm. The sets will include a variety of rhythmic styles and tempos, something to delight every dancer's palate, and even those who are there for listening pleasure. The venue will be held in the attractive Grand Ballroom of the Lake Merritt Dance Center in downtown Oakland. Refreshments will be available. Portions of proceeds from the event will go to the Alameda County Community Food Bank, an organization that distributes food to the bay area homeless and unemployed families.
