What happens when a therapist turns his eye in on himself?
Irvin Yalom is a world-renowned therapist, professor of psychiatry at Stanford University, and author of numerous international bestsellers including his iconic work, Loves Executioner. After years of practicing therapy and teaching some of the best minds in psychiatry today, Yalom turns to himself, analyzing the life experiences, dreams, and intermittent anxieties that have followed him from childhood to his stature today as one of the worlds most insightful thinkers.
Centered around a recurring nightmare that he credits as the source of his empathy, Yalom tells of seeing himself riding his bike past the home of an acne-scarred girl. Like every morning, he calls out, hoping to befriend her, "Hello Measles!" But in his dream, the girl's father makes Yalom understand that his daily greeting had hurt her. This becomes the launching pad for Becoming Myself, Yalom's bold and exciting debut memoir.
Irvin Yalom is joined onstage by bestselling author Lee Daniel Kravetz for a special conversation.
