2012 Tamale Making Classes

Have you always wanted to learn how to make tamales? Now is your chance to learn from a master tamalera!
Classes are generally held monthly on select Saturdays from 10 AM - 12:30 PM. Please see our listing of 2012 class dates:
January 21st February 18th March 17th May 19th June 16th July 21st August 18th (No September Class) October 20th November 17th December 8th
Class fee: $75 per person per class - includes recipe and one dozen uncooked tamales. Class fees go to support our Senior Wellness Program that provides balanced daily congregate meals, daily social and educational activities, exercise classes three times a week, and delivered meals to homebound seniors each week.
Class will begin promptly at 10:00 AM in the kitchen at El Centro de la Raza. All cooking supplies and ingredients will be provided, but please bring your own apron.
The class focuses on the traditional preparation of authentic pork tamales. The tamales are prepared in the handmade and traditional fashion using cultural ingredients, which includes pork lard. No substitutions can be made, but after the class we can provide an alternate vegetarian recipe upon request.
Location: El Centro de la Raza 2524 16th Ave S (in kitchen on ground floor).
