Donate to "Project Cool" -- providing school supplies for King County's homeless children
Help us to send every homeless child in King County to school with the supplies they need to succeed!
*$60 will provide 1 student with a new backpack, filled with quality school supplies, age appropriate books, and key basic health items.
*$100 will allow 25 high school 9th graders to write their first high school essays in new spiral notebooks.
*$200 will color the lives of 30 young students as they begin kindergarten with new crayons, markers, and colored pencils.
Our goal is to distribute close to 2,000 backpacks annually.
Shelters and social services provide many things needed for basic survival for the homeless, but until "Project Cool," there was no service providing school supplies to homeless children.
BACKGROUND:
The reason to donate here, today:
Because there is no service fee associated with donations to any cause taken by Brown Paper Tickets. If you are going to donate online, this is the way to ensure that the most money possible is going to the cause you intend your donation for.
Service fees for online donation webpages average 5%, in addition to a bank's processing fee, taken directly from your donation. Some online donation platforms offer additional services as a package, and charge the nonprofit a monthly service fee. Either business model results in less money available for the charity to provide the services your donations are intended for.
NOTE: No matter where you donate online, the bank that processes your credit card will charge a small fee -- most of the time, about 3% of your donation.
To make your donation completely fee-free, write a check to "Project Cool/SKCCH" and send it to:
77 S. Washington St., Seattle, WA 98104.
Donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
We will also facilitate donations of school supplies to help us to fill the backpacks -- to find out where to donate, or if you are interested in lending a hand, please email media@brownpapertickets.com.
_______________________________________________________ Find out more about Project Cool: Project Cool is a program of the Seattle/King County Coalition on Homelessness (SKCCH). The Coalition is one of the oldest independent homeless advocacy organizations in the United States. More info at ... http://www.homelessinfo.org/what_we_do/project_cool.php
Project Cool helps more than 1,000 homeless schoolchildren each year. We give each child a sturdy new backpack filled with quality school supplies, books, toothbrushes, and more. We train school staff and social workers about supporting homeless students.
We believe that * ALL students should have the tools and help they need to succeed in school, no matter where they sleep at night; * Students who are homeless should be able to walk into their classrooms with the same tools as their classmates; * School should be an oasis of stability and support for children who are coping with the uncertainty of homelessness.
Project Cool and the Coalition work all year-round to make sure that children and youth who are homeless are included at school and receive the supports they need and are entitled to. Our "Supporting Homeless Students" workshops help social service providers and school staff understand how to help students who are homeless, and work effectively with each other and with parents to make sure that children get to school, stay in school, and succeed in school.
