This program is designed to support emerging dance artists looking for a stepping-stone between the showcase format and full-on evening-length self-production. At least two of the participating artists or companies in each year's Split Bills will be selected to share a run as part of the Triskelion Arts Presents program during the 2015-2016 Season.
SCHEDULE
Thursday, April 16: BOOMERANG/Double-Edge Dance and The Moving Architects Friday, April 17: BOOMERANG/Double-Edge Dance and Una Projects Saturday, April 18: Una Projects and Amy Cova Dance Sunday, April 19: Amy Cova Dance and The Moving Architects
The Moving Architects' "Demure as Dynamite" looks to the women of the bible in portrait as depicted in two volumes of poetry by Artistic Director/Choreographer Erin Carlisle Norton's late grandfather Thomas John Carlisle. Shamefulness and submissiveness, vitality and heroism, these traits are pulled from the prose and conveyed through the angularly powerful and suggestively fragile states and interactions between five dynamic female dancers. The tone of the work represents the range of emotions in these portraited women sections that reveal the darker agitated underbelly of the female experience and sections that embrace the meaningful significance of camaraderie and generosity found between women in biblical times and today. (April 16 and 19)
UNA Projects will premiere their newest work "Ships", a study on being alone. Comprised of duets and solos, "Ships" looks at our desires, fantasies, challenges and innate differences as human beings. There will be a different cast of dancers performing the piece each night. (April 17 and 18)
In their newest work Amy Cova Dance explores food, sex and medicine women. The movement vocabulary, an explosive dialogue on rituals, refocusing and magic shares the space with an original composition by Alvin Hill. The dancers begin with questions, struggle with answers and live in the evocative presentation of process. The work is pubic bones and marrow bones, by way of movement. This ensemble work is layered with unexpected static, dynamic mouthfuls and holistic offerings. (April 18 and 19)
BOOMERANG/Double-Edge Dance present the recent solos, Thresheld and cloud elegy. Thresheld is a solo of cascading rises and falls, pushing the barriers of physicality and vulnerability, with live music by maverick pianist Adam Tendler. cloud elegy is a premiere of an expanded and riveting solo performed by Sarah Lass and vocalist/composer Michelle Birsky, which also includes electroacoustic music by composer Ross Feller. April 16 and 17)
