The Glass Menagerie
Coming to the Jericho Arts Center this December: The Fire Escape Equity Co-Op presents The Glass Menagerie, a fresh and poignant take on Tennessee Williams' classic. Directed by esteemed Vancouver theatre artist Shawn Macdonald, this production brings together established and emerging artists to give Williams' beloved memory a sharp contemporary spin. The Glass Menagerie still rings wistfully true even now the play is currently enjoying a hit revival on Broadway. It's a work about love of all kinds, of memories and dreams. As contemporary theatre explores the starkness and aggression in modern life, we are interested in looking at the gentle and deeply felt story of a family slowly spinning towards crisis. It's a memory play shrouded deeper in memory by history itself; a memory of a gentler time of storytelling that feels fresh and vital in the modern world.
The Glass Menagerie will be directed by award-winning playwright and actor Shawn Macdonald, leading an incredible creative team of established and emerging designers. Marilyn Norry stars as the unforgettable Amanda Wingfield, with Scott Button (tagged, Proud, Speech and Debate) as Tom Wingfield. Christine Quintana (Saint Joan, Mr. Marmalade, Of Mice and Men) supports as Laura Wingfield, and Graeme McComb (Moss Park, Cranked) will play Jim O'Connor.
