Good Spirits at Almond
Which pairing will you prefer?
On Monday, January 25, Edible magazines will throw a cocktail celebration called Good Spirits, at Almond restaurant. Inspired by the sold-out success of our Good Beer bash (which we'll throw again this July), we've matched six Manhattan chefs with six spectacular spirits, and can't wait to taste the pairings they're preparing.
Gramercy Tavern's kitchen will resonate with the flavors of St. Germain, Almond will birth a complement to Rhum J.M., and one lucky chef will serve alongside a beery cocktail mixed with Heartland Brewery's new keg series. PDT's Jim Meehan will hold court, providing online previews, written cocktail commentary and on-site guidance for the lucky attendees who will be able to warm their cockles sixfold.
This event will sell out, so get your tickets now. Tickets are just $40 for an evening of food, drink and merriment. (Enter the code "cocktail" and we'll include a one-year subscription to Edible Manhattan for free.)
Mixology-minded chefs will strive for liquid symbiosis, cooking up perfect pairings for cocktails made with storied spirits. Resto will rock with Hendrick's Gin. Ilili will blend with Tuthilltown Distillery's Spirit of the Hudson vodka. And Rocking Horse Cafe will samba with Sombra Mezcal. Roni-Sue's will round out the experience with cocktail-inspired chocolates.
Among the other drinks being concocted are a sipper mixed with Wolffer Estate Vineyards verjus, a dessert-friendly elixir containing Dallis Coffee brewed by Bodum, and Gus Soda as the natural, nonalcoholic, locavore pour.
Chef Igacio Mattos of il Buco conceived of a persimmon, fennel and hazelnut salad to accompany the Il Buco Sour created by the restaurant's mixologist, Blythe Lang; like the salad, the Sour sparkles with fresh persimmon--as well as Tuthilltown whiskey. And Almond's chef Jason Weiner will serve crepinette of lamb neck with celery root puree and a kumquat-basil marmalade, which attendees will wash down with Rhum J.M., an agricole rum from Martinique. (More pairings will be leaked as the evening approaches.)
Good Spirits is produced by Edible Brooklyn and Edible Manhattan magazines, in partnership with Almond restaurant.
