Boylesque 101 with Waxie Moon and Ernie Von Schmaltz
Learn to create your very own Boylesque routine under the tutelage of gender bending Boylesque sensation, Miss(ter) Waxie Moon and the Man, the Myth, the Mustache, Ernie Von Schmaltz!
The famed original Burlesque 101 6-week course has been seen in "A Wink And A Smile", showing in theaters around the U.S. starting in May. The first class focusing exclusively on the Boylesque genre graduated this past October, and interest in the second session has been overwhelming!
The course is co-taught by Waxie and Ernie, with guest appearances and lectures by local Boylesque performers.
Course fee includes Six group lessons, Five private lessons with Waxie Moon and or Ernie Von Schmaltz, Class 8x10, and a public graduation recital at the West Hall Theatre in the Oddfellows Building on Saturday April 24!
Students will learn the fundamentals of Burlesque history and style, develop a character and persona, and create, costume, and choreograph their own routine in a fully supported atmosphere. This course follows the same structure as the Burlesque 101, but the curriculum has been specially designed by Headmistress Indigo Blue and Waxie Moon to account for the masculine/male/boi/boy/fag/butch/tough/stud gendered representations that Boylesque can be comprised of. Persons of any gender, sex, affiliation identity and/or sexuality may apply for the class. The course will explore the multiplicities of meaning that "Boylesque" can have, and focus in particular on more masculine representations and identities.
Weekly group classes will be held Wednesdays from 6-8 pm in the Oddfellows Hall on Capitol Hill starting on March 17. Students must be available for one weekly half-hour private sessions during the following times: Wednesdays 8pm-10pm, Thursdays, 3-5 or Fridays 2-5.
Tuition is $525. Register on this site with a $100 non-refundable deposit to secure your place. Payment in full is required before the class starts. Payment plans are available - please email the contact below for more details. Space is limited to ensure individual attention, so register early! Some scholarship funds may be available.
