Steep Canyon Rangers in Concert
The Town of Shelter Island Recreation Department proudly presents an evening of bluegrass music with the Steep Canyon Rangers on January 16, 2010. This terrific young band plays a variety of songs that stay close to the traditional roots of the genre, but the "Steeps" also take extended forays that stretch the boundaries of contemporary bluegrass. Cited as the IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year in 2006, this band has been touring the country extensively, most recently with comedian/banjoist Steve Martin. The show with Steve and bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley at Carnegie Hall put the spotlight on a band whose time has come. The Ranger's latest Rebel Records release, "Deep in the Shade" is rapidly climbing the acoustic charts. Constant touring, intense rehearsing, and most importantly, creative songwriting, sets them apart from the field. The Steep Canyon Rangers are: Woody Platt (guitar and lead vocals), Mike Guggino (mandolin and harmony vocals) Charles Humphrey III (bass and harmony vocals), Nicky Sanders (fiddle and harmony vocals) and Graham Sharp (banjo, lead and harmony vocals).
For a great night of both traditional and contemporary bluegrass, don't miss this band! Doors open at 7:00, show begins at 7:30.
