'14 Discovering the Americas (Diverse Journeys Concert Series)
Vesper Chorale, with Vesper Chamber Orchestra, continues its Diverse Journeys Concert Series with "Discovering the Americas." This concert features the world premiere of Concierto Sinfonico Machu Picchu for Andean Flute, by Jaime Diaz Orihuela of Lima, Peru. The Andean Flute, also known as the Quena, will be played by Nayo Ulloa, a professional Quena player originally from Peru. He will be accompanied by the Vesper Chamber Orchestra. In addition, the concert will include choral repertoire from Mexican composers, both contemporary and historical. Join us to discover the hauntingly beautiful sounds of music from Peru and Mexico.
In its Diverse Journeys Concert Series, Vesper Chorale aspires to collaborate with ethnic communities in celebrating the music and history of their respective cultures. In keeping with this goal, composer Jaime Diaz Orihuela will come as a visiting artist for a series of master classes and lectures. Previous concerts with outreach to the Spanish Language community include two performances of Ariel Ramirez's works, Navidad Nuestra (2009 and 2012) and Misa Criolla (2010), and Stabat Mater by Spanish composer, Jorge Muniz in March 2012.
Pre-concert lecture at 3:30 pm.
