A Christmas Carol
A CHRISTMAS CAROL WILL HAPPEN THIS YEAR IN KANSAS CITY In an adaptation starring Nathan Granner
One of Kansas Citys greatest nationally recognized talents, Nathan Granner, will be performing an adaptation by Greg Oliver Bodine of Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol at the Hemingway Gallery, 103 W. 19th St. Kansas City, MO. Doors open at 6:30pm, performances are Friday, Dec. 4, at 7:00pm and 9:30pm; Thursday, Friday, Dec. 11 at 7:00pm. The event will offer holiday refreshments and a cash bar to its guests. Tickets can be purchased here at Brown Paper Tickets or at the door the day of the event; adults $20, students/seniors $15 and children $5.
Granner was determined to see an almost 30 year Kansas City holiday tradition kept alive. Partnering with Greg Oliver Bodine and The Hemingway Gallery, Granner steps into a new role with a one man performance of this holiday classic. The adaptation is not your traditional ensemble cast of A Christmas Carol, but rather a performed reading of the holiday classic in the voice of Charles Dickens himself. Clearly it is a break from the norm and an exciting endeavor for the classically trained operatic tenor, however no performance with Granner would be complete without music and he is sure to exceed that expectation with this performance as well.
Says Granner, Growing up with Christmas Carol, both going with my family and being in the KCRep show has been a big, special part of my life. Im so happy to be able to keep the tradition going
The Hemingway Gallery, owned by Kansas City native Kerry Duffin, is a newly renovated historic landmark in the Crossroads District making its debut to the Kansas City arts scene this fall. The space will be a multi-purpose gallery for the performing arts and an event space. Nathan Granner, one of The American Tenors (www.theamericantenors.com)- a trio of world class, classically-trained tenors, is recognized throughout the U.S. and the world. Granner also has also received international notoriety while touring and recording with guitarist Beau Bledsoe. His musical and theatrical productions dont stop here. Granner has partnered with Jeffery Rukama on a post modern adaptation of Frank Sinatras smash hit album The Wee Small Hours that will make its debut to the Kansas City arts scene in January 2010.
This show also acts as a fundraiser for Nathan Granner and Jeffrey Rukaman to help support their opera, "Gospel of Judas". Granner and Rukaman have received a grant to complete the opera in Florida this winter, but need to cover expenses while the production is being crafted (you know, rent, mortgage utilities).
So one production begets a whole NEW OPERA!
Please join Mr. Granner this December to celebrate the season at "A Christmas Carol"
Bring the family! The show lasts approximately 70-80 minutes
