SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS!, the only show in our four-year history of monthly shows at The Federal in Los Angeles that we've done twice the glorious songs of the Sherman Brothers Richard M. and Robert B., the men responsible for making some of the most beloved, well known and iconic songs ever written, from pop to film to stage. The award-winning songwriting brothers' songs have been delighting entire generations since the 1950s, and whether you were around then and discovering their songs when they were new, or if you were born in any subsequent decade, the Sherman Brothers songs were most assuredly part of your life.
From their first pop hit, "Tall Paul" to their songs for The Parent Trap, they were Walt Disney's favorite songwriters and there was no question he would entrust the songs for his magnum opus to them Mary Poppins. From there they went on to do Winnie the Pooh, The Jungle Book, The One and Only Genuine Original Family Band, The Happiest Millionaire, That Darn Cat, and many others. Away from Disney, the brothers wrote the brilliant song-scores to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Tom Sawyer, Charlotte's Web, The Slipper and the Rose, and then conquered Broadway with Over Here. Additionally, Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and now The Jungle Book, have all been adapted for the stage, with Mary and Chitty both having Broadway runs and The Jungle Book having its first production this year in Chicago and Boston. Their Disneyland anthem, "It's a Small World" has been heard by millions upon millions of people the world over in every language conceivable. As with all Kritzerland shows, you'll hear a mix of the well known and the not so well known, all sung by a stellar cast, which we'll announce soon. So come and join us for a joyous, incredibly tuneful evening of the Sherman Brothers. Oh, and did we mention Richard M. Sherman will be with us as our special guest star? And we may even have a surprise or two up our Kritzerland sleeve.
THE SONGS THAT GOT AWAY -- we thought it would be fun to do our four-year anniversary LA show, as it's kind of everything the Kritzerland shows are about -- songs from Broadway, off-Broadway, and beyond. We've been doing our shows since September of 2010 -- every month for four years. Our anniversary show is a potpourri -- no theme other than the songs have been recorded by producer Bruce Kimmel on various albums that we haven't gotten to yet or songs we weren't able to include because of time. But it's also the ten-year anniversary of Bruce Kimmel's hit musical revue, What If, so we're celebrating that, too, by doing a few of its parody numbers. We've assembled an amazing cast for this show. It will be an evening of great songs, lots of humor and fantastic performances.
