Caminos Flamencos Presents "Canciones" (World Premiere)
Who would think of combining a traditional flamenco song, "Malaguena," with a 1960's song by Rosemary Clooney? Caminos Flamencos dives into this entirely fresh and original production of "Canciones" with a new repertoire that revives their concept of musical exploration using the passionate language of flamenco in the genres of pop, soul and alternative music, all the while with an eye towards their ultimate goal: expression and duende.
Caminos Flamencos' new production brings a distinct Spanish flavor to the holiday season with a revival of the inspired "Canciones." Artistic Director Yaelisa and her eclectic cast of 12+ artists inhabit original "songs' and fuse them with flamenco-inspired choreographies, once again challenging audiences to view this mysterious art form in a new light. Dancing flamenco to the music of Leonard Cohen, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, the Police, Jason McGuire and yes, The Beatles, along with the deeply traditional flamenco styles of Siguriiyas, Soleares and more. Emmy-winning choreographer Yaelisa, acclaimed for both her traditional and contemporary flamenco dance programs, this season creates a show reflecting her eclectic musical tastes and curiosity for exploration. The world-class group of artists includes Guest Dancers Manuel Gutierrez (France) and Marina Elana, and virtuoso Musical Director Jason McGuire "El Rubio,' collaborating with fine musicians hailing from the worlds of jazz, rock and blues, accompanied by the incredible Gypsy flamenco singers Jesus Montoya and Jose Cortes. The Company promises an evening of pure entertainment in dance and flamenco, and a celebration of joy and reflection.
