Canines for Veterans at Community Presbyterian
The Central Florida Composers Forum put their heads together and decided to write a concert program to honor veterans. There will be poetry, read by vets, written just for the occasion by great young poets, some choral music to open and close the event, and of course, great new music, performed by Sovereign Brass.
Sovereign Brass is a brass quintet plus percussion (six members) established 20 years ago by the pre-eminent brass players in the Orlando area. Jeff Thomas on trombone, Robert Carpenter on tuba, Tom Macklin and Michael Fee on trumpets, Kathy Thomas on french horn, and Mark Goldberg on percussion. All are members of the Orlando Philharmonic, and all have performed with many other orchestras in the country. The group was featured at the ITA, and has performed the Orlando Phil's Sounds of Summer for 20 years!
The composers, all members of CF2, are Tim Stulman, Keith Lay, Daniel Saylor, Rebekah Todia, Larry Adams, Stan Cording, Charles Griffin, Benoit Glazer and Susan Lackman.
Listing all these composers accomplishments would be tedious, but let's just mention that there are in this group multiple award winners, Full Sail teachers, university professors, a Cirque du Soleil conductor, and more.
The proceeds from this concert will benefit K9's for Warriors, a charity based in Jacksonville that rescues, trains, and pairs service dogs to returning veterans who need them.
A Triple A rated charity, they served a crucial need and make a huge difference in the lives of returning soldiers with special needs.
We hope that you will consider donating tickets also. We will give these donated tickets to vets, so they can enjoy the concert for free.
We thank our sponsors: Bryce L. West Foundation, Full Sail, Timucua Arts Foundation and Herschel Lasik.
Join us for an evening of music and poetry to honor our veterans.
