HAMLET
An ensemble thirty years in the making! New City's core ensemble (director John Kazanjian, performer Mary Ewald, and designers Lindsay Smith and Nina Moser) have reunited with longtime collaborators Peter Crook, Todd Jefferson Moore, Elizabeth Kenny, Kristen Kosmas, Seanjohn Walsh, and George Catalano, along with newcomers Brandon Simmons, Tim Gouran, Scott Abernethy. New City's space has been reconfigured for this unique opportunity to witness HAMLET in a truly intimate setting.
Here's what Joe Papp wrote about having a woman play Hamlet: "[ A woman playing Hamlet] illuminates parts of the play you would never see if a man were playing the role. When you take a major classic and change the terms of it, you immediately force people to really look at it again. People get set in their ways and really don't see the play anew each time, but you get someone who has an entirely different viewpoint and you find whole new areas of the play spring to life."
