An Evening of Jewish Music with Rosalie Gerut and Hankus Netsky
Enjoy a diverse program that explores the full range of Jewish popular and folk music, original compositions as well as some exotic surprises.

As a performer, Rosalie Gerut is considered to be "America's secret Yiddish gem." With Yiddish as her first language and having had a father who was a folksinger in Europe, she was steeped in Jewish music and has performed internationally in concert halls, theaters and radio programs as a soloist, with the Klezmer Conservatory Band, Shirim and her own ensemble. As an actress and composer she has worked with The Joseph Papp Public Theater ("Songs of Paradise"), The A.R.T.("Shlemiel The First"), has had her compositions appear in film ("The Imported Bridegroom"), television (PBS) and radio. She received a Chicago Jeff (Tony) award nomination for the musical "Prairie Lights" and an Exceptional Woman Award from WMJX for courage in her work facilitating tshuvah between descendants of the Holocaust and the Nazi Regime..

A multi-instrumentalist, composer, and ethomusicologist, Hankus Netsky is chair of New England Conservatory's Contemporary Improvisation Department and founder and director of the Klezmer Conservatory Band, an internationally renowned Yiddish music ensemble. He has composed extensively for film, theater, and television, collaborated closely with such artists as Itzhak Perlman, Robin Williams, Joel Grey, and Theodore Bikel and produced numerous recordings, including ten by the Klezmer Conservatory Band.

The evening's ensemble also features violinist and singer Eden MacAdam-Somer, bassist Andrew Blickenderfer, and percussionist Henry Goldberg.
