Sistahs of the Drum
Sistah's of the Drum, based in Oakland, California, have been performing in the community for over ten years. They are proud to uphold the lineage passed down from the ancestors through the performance of traditional West African rhythms. "We are women of African descent who come together to heal, transform, and witness through the power of the drum."
The concert,"A Drum Journey through the Diaspora," will transport the listener from Mother Africa through the journey the enslaved Africans travelled. The songs and rhythms will reflect village life, and the musical heritage the Africans brought to the countries they travelled to.
This offering is also a reunion of all the past members of Sistah's of the Drum. Original members will perform with the current members on select rhythms. It will truly be a celebration of herstory, life, community, and love.
